If you know an IEEE Senior Member working in industry who has made extraordinary contributions in applying technology in the IEEE fields of interest, consider nominating that person as a Fellow, the institute’s highest membership grade. The deadline to nominate someone for the class of 2008 is 1 March 2007.
The IEEE wants to boost the number of Fellows from industry, specifically in its Application Engineer/Practitioner category. Out of the 271 Fellows named in 2006—the first year for which nominations for this category were accepted—17 were from this group. Almost all the others were research engineers in academia. The IEEE Board of Directors established the category in 2003 to recognize those from industry who have made significant contributions in “product development, advancement in systems, application or operation, project management or construction activity, process development, manufacturing innovation, codes or standards development, or other application of technology.”
Of course, you may also nominate candidates for the three other Fellow categories: Research Engineer/Scientist, Educator, and Technical Leader.
