The Educational Activities Board seeks nominations for its seven awards that recognize IEEE members, employers of members, and pre-college educators who have made noteworthy contributions to education. This is the first year that an award will be given to a society or council—instead of to an individual or company—that makes major contributions to the lifelong learning, continuing education, and professional development of its members by offering outstanding products, services and support. The new Society/Council Professional Development Award will be given in odd-numbered years, alternating with the EAB Section Award, introduced in 2004 to recognize the professional development contributions by sections which will be offered in even-numbered years.
Deadline for nominations for all awards is 30 April. The award descriptions follow:
Meritorious Achievement Award in Accreditation Activities—for outstanding contributions in the accreditation of engineering, engineering technology, computer science, and applied science programs.
Meritorious Achievement Award in Continuing Education—for the design, delivery, and support of continuing education courses and programs.
Major Educational Innovation Award—for outstanding educational innovation in an IEEE field of interest.
Pre-College Educator Award—for current pre-college classroom teachers who have inspired both an appreciation of and understanding of mathematics, science, technology, and the engineering process in students, and have encouraged students to pursue technical careers.
Meritorious Service Citation—for outstanding and sustained service to the aims and objectives of the IEEE Educational Activities Board by past members of the EAB or current or past members of EAB committees (other than currently serving on the Awards Recognition Committee).
Employer Professional Development Award—for the contributions (of organizations that employ IEEE members) to employee continuing education and professional development.
Society/Council Professional Development Award—for contributions to the lifelong learning, continuing education, and professional development of its members
